Dealing with Social Gospel

"Obviously there is no need to care about poor people. The message of the Gospels is not the law of the land..." -Another TownHall Classic

Liberals have rejected the Gospel preached in the Bible, so they preach their social gospel. Christ has failed in His Gospel, so they must institute a new gospel with salvation not of the Lord, but of the state.

The 'message of the Gospels' is that the role of government is to institute tax policy for the redistribution of wealth. Never mind that national sin is involved in promoting class envy and the thief of another man's property. The 'message of the gospels' is to make generations of men subject to state dependency. This institutional dependency is worst than slavery because it destroys in a man what it means to be a man, and therefore can destroy a man's family for generations.

The real message of the Gospels is to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, as opposed to the material things...

"Do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you" [Matthew 6:31-33].

The social gospel is a lie from the pit of hell, and those who advocate it in the name of Christ are anti-Christ. The Bible also says that 'if a man will not work, then neither shall he eat' [2 Thessalonians 3:10]. Men are image bearers; they are helped by government policies that promote work and independence. It is the role of the churches to administer charity with resources freely given. The government acting in this role using funds coerced by confiscatory tax policy is no substitute for local involvement that offers more than physical necessities. The spiritual dimension is totally missing from government assistance.

And here is the tragedy of social gospel. It reduces men to barbarians by substituting the physical for the spiritual. It is also written in the Gospels that, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God' [Matthew 4:4]. The social gospel preachers have no interest in the Bible except to abuse it to justify their big government welfare programs. It is clear that the real 'message of the Gospels' is that men should be dependent on God alone and certainly not the government.

The proper role of the state was well stated by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence...to secure the natural rights of life, liberty and property. Social gospel is not a legitimate function of the state except in the minds of those who reject the Bible and the founding principles of America.
