‘So keep it up, Sarah, and maybe others will follow your courageous example.’
This statement reminds me of the story written for our instruction in Judges 4. No man in Israel would stand up to fight their enemy. Those responsible would not go unless Deborah would go with them...
Now Deborah, a prophetess…was judging Israel at that time…And the children of Israel came up to her for judgment. Then she sent and called for Barak…and said to him, “Has not the LORD God of Israel commanded, ‘Go and deploy troops at Mount Tabor; take with you ten thousand men…and against you I will deploy Sisera…and I will deliver him into your hand’?”
And Barak said to her, “If you will go with me, then I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go!” So she said, “I will surely go with you; nevertheless there will be no glory for you in the journey you are taking, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman.” [Judges 4:4-9]
Now that Sarah has stood up to fight the enemy conservatives would do well to join her. We did not get into this crisis overnight nor should we expect to fix it overnight. We must begin somewhere. Why not where we are? There is no difficulty here in identifying the enemy. Let’s join together with those on our side and engage the enemy, not each other.
